The complexity of the simple
David Sagnier (Barcelona, 1963) is a sculptor — born in Barcelona and embraced by Paris — whose work is driven by a pursuit of elegant synthesis: translating complexity into refined, essential forms imbued with depth, clarity, and emotional resonance.
He works primarily with corten steel, but also turns to noble materials such as wood and paper, exploring their capacity to express the essential.
Creation, for Sagnier, is an act of humility: he shapes the material, but it is nature — air, water, and sunlight — that ultimately completes the work. Oxides and light activate the surfaces, reveal textures and shadows, and generate a living dialogue between the piece, its surroundings, and the viewer.
Sculpture, in his view, is a bridge: a silent form of communication between the work and the one who contemplates it. A space where silence speaks, where form suggests more than it shows, and where the complexity of simplicity is revealed.
